In today’s economic climate maintaining a healthy lifestyle that can keep us going as we race around our multitasking lives can be time consuming and costly. Having friends join us for meals can stretch our ever decreasing budgets, we need food that is fast, easy to prepare, nutritious, tasty and does not break the bank.
There is nothing like cereals to fill us up and keep us going throughout the day, the grains nutrients release slowly giving us the energy we need to fulfil our hectic schedules, they are a multitude of grains to chose from British wheat, oats, rye, rice, millet and maize (corn).
Try pancakes, use different grains, maize pancakes a favourite of North and South America, mix up different grains to give your pancakes their own unique texture and flavour. Try pasta that versatile staple that you will find in many of our cupboards, made from durum wheat. Couscous also known as semolina, rustle up a salad, quick & convenient add olives peppers and tomatoes for that Mediterranean feel. Egg rice a tasty lunch for all.
Whole grain cereals are the ultimate food when the bran and germ are not removed the resulting cereal retains its vitamins, minerals, fats, oils and proteins and of course the all important carbohydrate that will transform into vital fuel enabling us to carry on throughout the delay without flagging.
Porridge for breakfast is an amazing way to start the day, have it on its own or with nuts, seeds, and fruit for a healthy balanced meal that will not stretch our purse strings. Some even like it with a savoury flavour adding salt or soy sauce.
